EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) therapy is a specialized form of treatment that can be incredibly effective in addressing trauma, anxiety, and other distressing experiences. During EMDR sessions, we'll work together to process these stuck memories in a safe and structured way.
One of the unique aspects of EMDR is the use of bilateral stimulation, which can involve things like eye movements, hand taps, or auditory tones. These bilateral stimulations help stimulate the brain's natural healing processes, allowing the traumatic memories to become less intense and more manageable over time.
What's really powerful about EMDR is that it not only helps to reduce the distress associated with traumatic memories but also allows for new insights and perspectives to emerge.
Clients often find that they're able to see the traumatic event in a different light, and the emotional charge that was once overwhelming begins to diminish.
